Present a tribute to an individual by making a contribution to the Henrico County Historical Society in memory of or to celebrate a special occasion, such as a birthday, an anniversary or wedding. This Tribute will be acknowledged in the quarterly newsletter and will also be submitted to the Society webpage for viewing for one year. Each recipient will receive a letter of acknowledgement and also a copy of the newsletter in which the Tribute is presented. The Henrico County Historical Society is a 501(c)(3) organization and contributions are fully deductible.

John Henry White III
John Henry White III of Richmond passed away Thursday, November 9, 2006. Born March 14, 1918 in Richmond, VA, he was the son of the late Rosalie Stone White and John H. White, II. He was a graduate of John Marshall High School, where he was in the Cadet Corps and Band. Mr. White attended Randolph-Macon Collage, where he was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha. He served in the Army Medical Corps during World War II in the Pacific Theatre. Mr. White graduated from the University of Richmond, where he was a member of the Boatwright Society. He was employed by E.I. DuPont deNemours until his retirement. a Mason since he was 21 years old, he was a life member of Westhampton Lodge No. 302 AF&AM (formerly Fitzgerald Lodge), Richmond Scottish Rite Bodies and played the alto saxophone with the ACCA Shriners Million Dollar Band for 40 years. He was made a life member of the band in 2005. Mr. White was a member of the Henrico County Historical Society, the Richmond District United Methodist Historical Society, Westwood Civic Association and attended Westover Hills United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife, Burnice "Bee" Blair White; son, David R. White, Sr.; a step-daughter, Jane P. Fogle; and two grandchildren.

Shirley Elmeree Smith Knavel Hamel
Passed away on November 27, 2006. She was born in 1925 in East Conemaugh, a suburb of Johnstown, Pennsylvania. A resident of Henrico county for 43 years, she was the wife of Dr. Dana B. Hamel, founding Chancellor of Virginia Community College System; mother of three children and five grandchildren.
